The Eroticism of Fat Men
The Brussels Mayor Yvan Mayeur was determined to clear the street girls out of the Rue des Commerçants (Alhambra) area—even though street prostitution is legal in Belgium. When moving them didn’t work, he got the police to start issuing 350 euro fines to both the girl and their customer if caught.
Today, however, he has been forced to resign, ensared in a corruption scandal. He was found to be pocketing 19,000 euros a year in attendance fees for “work” on the board of the homeless organisation Samusocial—despite the fact there was no record of him having any attended any meetings at all.
One wonders if this may breathe new life into Alhambra for the working girls, and whether the 350 euro fines will still be enforced.
