Oyster users can pay £100 more than contactless card users each week

Still using your Oyster card? It might be time to switch to contactless payment if you’re a pay as you go customer.

Analysis by the Labour party has found that an Oyster card user could potentially end up paying almost £100 more for their weekly travel than someone using their bank card.

It’s because TfL has introduced a weekly cap on bank card payments, while Oyster card users still only have a daily cap (unless you buy a weekly travel card).

The study showed that passengers travelling through zones 4-7 seven days a week would pay £121.20 using Oyster and £29.40 using contactless. Those travelling through zones 1-4 would pay £68.40 using Oyster, where as contactless card users would be charged £45.

TfL said: ‘The same fares apply to both contactless and Oyster.’
